Last Fall CAlving Season

Are we not going to have cattle anymore?!?

Are we no longer raising calves?!

don’t worry … we’re just going to one calving cycle starting in 2022!!!!

There’s going to be a new vlog dropping mid morning .... it’s our last fall calving for numerous reasons:

1) Timing .. the number 1 reason for US - is time. We are still busy in Hay. We’re finishing up first cut and rolling right into second cut hay then 4th cut alfalfa

2) Heat Stress, Flies & Black Vultures ... this is a huge issue in MO right now. Heat indexes are HOT 🥵... and it’s been going on a 2 week stretch. Heat can take its toll on bred cows causing them to abort their calves - it can run down good mommas trying to care for their calves causing them to dehydrate faster due to making good milk. Flies cause Pink Eye which then will result in bad eyes not only in the cows but the babies as well -

VULTURES … Black Headed ones … is a real big issue right now for us and surrounding areas. Here are a couple links regarding them more in depth.

3) We firmly believe our calves grow better in the spring - being raised on lush spring grass instead of us relying on Hay & Other grain products during the winter months.

I will continue to share more on my personal blog “Last Fall Calving” or you can Tag along on our YouTube channel to watch as we have to pull a calf & I chitchat more about this being our last fall calving season at @wieczorekfarms
