For most it’s maybe getting away for a long weekend with friends and family, the last boat day, or maybe just an extra day of rest before gearing up for all the fall school activities that awaits-. But the holiday also provides an opportunity to reflect on all that hard work you’ve been putting in, no matter what your job title might be.
Farming is a Labor of Love. One that doesn’t always recognize holidays in the same aspects as others. Farming is a day in and day out job. It’s long hours well before the sunrises and oftentimes even after the sun sets too.
I am a farmer. And this Labor Day I am thankful even more so for the opportunities we have been given. 5 years ago Labor Day was an extra Monday off from the office. A day to get one more thing off my list, maybe it was riding my horses, or mucking stalls, sleeping in with the kids or riding in the “buddy” seat with Jason.
Now it’s just another day for me to Love the Life we have made. It’s being thankful & grateful for the farm we have, the crop we produce & the lifestyle we have created over the years. And even though it’s a “holiday” – farm life never quits or takes a day off.

“Before the reward, there must be labor. You plant before you harvest. You sow in tears before you reap joy.”
— Ralph Ransom
I’ll see you in the fields 🫶🏼
