“I Never Win Anything…”
I joke all the time that I never win anything.
So the other day at the sale barn, they were celebrating Christmas with lunch from F&T Livestock—and let me just say, it was so good. One of those small-town, full-belly, everybody-gathered-around moments that feel like home.
Earlier, Jason had asked if I’d bring baked goods sometime. I laughed it off with, “Do you want me baking at 2 a.m.?”
Because let’s be honest—I’m really only confident mixing feed for the cattle these days, especially now that we’re getting the hang of our Jaylor TMR. Cookies? That’s a stretch. 😅
So when they started drawing names and announced I won the KitchenAid mixer, I just stood there stunned. Total haha moment.
Jason looked at me with that look.
You know the one.
The “welp… you have no excuse now” look.
Here’s the truth though—I’m not my mother. I’m not Betty Crocker. And I’ll be honest… I miss the days when dinner was on the table by 6:30.
When you work for yourself, you think you’ll have all the time in the world for you.
But reality looks different.
I ride less now than I did working 60+ hours at the office.
My house is usually a wreck.
Dinner shows up whenever it shows up—or sometimes not at all.
And if I’m being really honest?
We hardly ever sit at the table.
Instead, we pile around the couch. Boots kicked off. Kids stretched out. Everyone finally still for a moment. That’s where we relax. That’s where we connect. That’s where life happens.
And somewhere between winning a mixer I never expected and laughing at how little has gone according to “plan,” it hit me:
I might not get my name drawn very often.
But I’ve already won everything I need.
Time together—even if it’s messy.
A family that shows up—even if it’s tired.
A life that doesn’t look perfect—but feels full.
So maybe this mixer isn’t about becoming a better baker.
Maybe it’s just a reminder.
Life isn’t about the big wins.
It’s about the quiet ones we don’t always notice.
And if baking cookies brings us together on the couch a little more often… well, I guess I’ll take the win. 🤍
