CoK: Sunday at the Crossroads

Sunday at the Crossroads

Sundays are supposed to be rest days.
A pause.
A breath.
A holy exhale before the week begins again.

So why does Sunday so often feel like the most exhausting day of all?

By the time the sky turns colors like this—soft pinks and quiet golds stretching across the dirt road—we’re already tired. Not just physically, but deep-down weary. Running from chore to chore. From barn to house. From “just one more thing” to “how is it already evening?”

It feels like we’re being pulled in every direction.
Pulled by responsibility.
Pulled by expectation.
Pulled by the noise of the world whispering, “It’s easier this way. Just keep going. Don’t stop.”

That pull doesn’t come from God.

The enemy loves Sundays. Loves the chaos. Loves planting doubt right at the crossroads of life—where we know which path we should walk, but we turn our cheek because the other road looks easier in the moment.

And for farmers and ranchers, Sundays don’t magically slow down. If anything, they demand more. Animals still need fed. Waters still need checked. A new week has to be prepped for. And it never fails—something breaks on a Sunday.

But sometimes I wonder…
Does it break because we’re pushing too hard?
Carrying too much?
Trying to do everything in our own strength?

Maybe God isn’t asking us to stop working.
Maybe He’s asking us to sit with Him inside the work.

God sees us—whether we’re sitting on a church pew or sitting on a hay bale in the barn. Whether our hands are folded in prayer or wrapped around a pitchfork. He’s not measuring our faith by attendance or appearance. He’s looking at our hearts.

I’ll be honest—this tired farm mama struggles with being present. The world of technology pulls at me just as much as the work does. But even there, God makes a way. A Bible app on my phone. A sermon playing through earbuds while I chore. A whispered prayer on my knees in the dirt.

Worship doesn’t always look polished.
Sometimes it looks like dirt under your fingernails and tears on your cheeks.
Sometimes it looks like praising God right in the middle of the mess.

As we step into another busy week, let’s remember what this season is really about. Not the rush. Not the pressure. Not the noise.

But Christ.

The One who came not to burden us—but to give us rest.

Scriptures to Sit With This Week

Matthew 11:28

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God.”

A Sunday Prayer 🤍

Lord,
From this tired farm mama’s heart—I thank You.
Thank You for meeting me in the barn, on the dirt road, and in the quiet moments I almost miss. Forgive me for the times I rush past You, thinking I have too much to do to sit and listen. Help me remember that rest isn’t found in stopping—it’s found in trusting You.

As we head into a full week, steady our steps. Quiet the noise. Guard our hearts from doubt and distraction. Help us keep our eyes on You, especially when life pulls us in every direction.

Thank You for every blessing and every hardship—because both draw us closer to You.
We praise You, right here, right now.

Amen.

🤍
