When the Dust Settles | A Dirt Road Anthem Reflection
Cancer has a way of wrecking more than just a body. It shakes your faith, your peace, and your sense of normal. It’s changed the rhythm of our farm, our family, and the way I see every sunrise.
The unknown has become a constant companion. Every doctor’s visit, every lab result, every scan carries the weight of what if. It’s hard to breathe sometimes, living in the tension of fear and hope. And somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t really living anymore — I was just holding my breath.
For months, I’ve carried the fear so tightly that it drowned out everything else — laughter, joy, peace. But even in the storm, God’s hand has been steady.
Since July, Keaton has continued to prove every single doctor wrong. Every milestone, every smile, every good report is a reminder that God is not finished writing his story — or ours.
Now that hay season has slowed and the fields are resting, I’ve had more time to think — maybe too much. The work that once drowned out my thoughts has quieted, and the silence has forced me to face the emotions I’ve been pushing aside. The anxiety. The fear. The exhaustion.
But maybe this slower season isn’t meant to be filled with noise or distraction. Maybe it’s meant to be a space for healing — for letting God work in the places I’ve been too scared to go.
That’s what Dirt Road Anthem has become for me — a place to turn pain into purpose. To write, to speak, to create again out of the chaos and the grace that’s held us through it all.
Because when the dust settles, what’s left is faith. Not the easy kind, but the kind that’s been tested — the kind that’s grown roots deep in the soil of hardship.
This new series launching in January is my way of sharing the real, the raw, and the redeemed. It’s faith, family, and farming — and the lessons that come when life takes a turn you never expected.
So here’s to the slow season. The stillness. The space to breathe again. And to the God who’s been holding us all along.

🙏 A Prayer for the Hard Seasons
Heavenly Father,
In the middle of fear, uncertainty, and the long road of healing — help us remember that You are near.
When our hearts grow heavy and the quiet feels too loud, fill us with Your peace.
Thank You for the strength You’ve given our family, for the miracles You’ve worked through Keaton, and for the reminder that Your plans are always good, even when we can’t see the way forward.
Help us trade our fear for faith, our exhaustion for hope, and our pain for purpose.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
